Witness testifies in assault case against PM
In Copenhagen’s city court, a 39-year-old Polish man denies charges of assaulting Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen with a punch to the shoulder. The incident occurred unexpectedly on June 7 as Frederiksen was on her way to meet her friend journalist Puk Elgård for coffee. The alleged attack led Frederiksen to cancel several political meetings. During the trial, the accused man denies touching the Prime Minister and is not embarrassed about the case. Elgård describes the suddenness of the attack, and a PET bodyguard reports that the accused spoke angrily and struck Frederiksen, prompting her to exclaim. The public prosecutor questions witnesses about the event and its emotional impact, but Frederiksen does not testify, an unusual decision by the prosecution in such cases. The 39-year-old faces additional charges for indecent exposure, with the verdict expected on Wednesday.
