Danish parliament eyes deal on deepfakes

The Danish Parliament’s management seeks a consensus on the use of manipulated videos, such as deepfakes. This initiative follows cases where political parties used edited clips of figures such as the Prime Minister. The aim is to establish a code for parties on employing artificial intelligence without needing extra legislation. A previous manipulated video by the Danish People’s Party, showing the Prime Minister suggesting the cancellation of holidays, has been criticized, including by the Prime Minister herself, who described it as crossing a line. In 2019, an agreement was made not to spread fake news. The Danish Parliament now hopes to extend this to include manipulated videos. A meeting with experts is planned to discuss responsible AI use, while the Danish People’s Party argues that their video was satirical, demonstrating new technology’s possibilities.
