Majority of Danes support sending peacekeepers to Ukraine
A Voxmeter poll for Ritzau shows 53% of Danes endorse deploying Danish forces for Ukraine peacekeeping if needed. Only 15.4% oppose the idea. Danish citizens generally view cooperation with Ukraine positively, with 66% backing EU integration and 68% NATO membership for Ukraine. Mikkel Vedby Rasmussen, a University of Copenhagen professor, notes a continued support for foreign policy backed by military might. He suggests Danes recognize the increasing dangers in the world, necessitating active efforts to enhance security. Despite historical parallels with Ukraine, facing superpower neighbors, Denmark’s government feels it’s too soon to discuss Danish troop deployment to Ukraine, and defense unions doubt current capability due to ongoing NATO commitments in Latvia. A minority, 27%, suggest Ukraine should negotiate an end to the war with Russia, even at the cost of ceded territories. The poll was answered by 1021 people from February 18-20, 2025.
