Flu surge after holidays reaches new high

Influenza cases in Denmark have surged to over 2,200 in week 8, the highest for the season, according to Statens Serum Institut (SSI). Chief Physician Bolette Søborg previously thought the peak was reached but was proven wrong as hospitalizations also climbed. She warns that reported figures only show a fraction of actual cases and hospital data lags as people don’t get admitted until severely ill. This seasonal rise isn’t unusual, but the current level is notably high, and many more are likely infected. The tendency for infections to increase after holiday weeks complicates predictions. The RS-virus remains at a high but declining level, while COVID-19 infections are low.
