DF veteran joins Moderates amid harsh rhetoric
René Christensen, a longstanding figure in the Danish People’s Party, has left the party to join the Moderates. Citing a shift towards harsher rhetoric and a move away from power, Christensen stressed the importance of being close to the majority to influence change. He served in the Guldborgsund Municipality Council since 2006 and parliament since 2008, until he failed to secure reelection in 2022. Despite previously criticizing party switchers, Christensen found his values no longer aligned with the harder stances on immigration and skepticism towards the EU that characterized his former party. After personal discussions with the Moderates, he aligned with their more moderate immigration policies and positive stance on the EU. Christensen, with his eye on financial matters and rural districts, is open to vying for a parliamentary seat with his new party in the future.
