Danes prioritize economy over climate in used purchases
A survey by Den Blå Avis, revealed through the Genbrugsindekset 2024, shows that 81% of Danes have engaged in buying and selling used items in the past year, primarily to save money due to economic uncertainty, particularly the last year’s inflation. While 71% are motivated by savings, only 38% cite climate considerations despite the topic’s popularity in Denmark. In the 16-30 age group, 80% buy used to save money and 48% to benefit the climate, with notably more used clothing purchases compared to older generations. Julie Schoen of DBA expressed surprise that ecological motivation has not increased more. Data from the report, collected between January 3-17, 2024, involves 2,000 online responses from Danish citizens aged 16-75.
