Denmark poised to hit 2030 climate goal
Denmark is on track to achieve its 2030 climate goal of reducing greenhouse gas emissions by 70% from 1990 levels, says the Ministry of Climate, Energy and Utility. This forecast is based on current climate policy measures, although it faces uncertainties related to technology developments, behavior changes, and historical emissions revisions. For instance, recent data on peatland emissions, which were lower than previously thought, affected overall emission figures. Moreover, future revisions could alter these projections. As of 2022, Denmark has reduced emissions by 47% compared to 1990. Minister Lars Aagaard emphasizes the significance of turning agreements into actions, mentioning CO2 storage and industrial changes as crucial steps. The Green Tripartite Agreement is expected to help achieve the target. Yet, the Climate Council, advising on the green transition, earlier assessed a larger gap to the goal than government estimates.
