Denmark to miss EU cybersecurity deadline
Denmark will exceed the EU deadline for implementing new cybersecurity rules aimed at strengthening the security and resilience of public authorities and private companies. The complexity of the legislative work related to two EU directives led to the delay, according to the Ministry of Defense. The original implementation deadline was October 17, 2024, but it won’t be met. Defense Minister Troels Lund Poulsen regrets the postponement and ensures efforts to publicly consult on the proposals as soon as possible. Initially scheduled for the first quarter of 2024, submission of the legislation to the Danish Parliament will now be delayed until the next parliamentary session in October 2024. One directive aims to elevate and harmonize cybersecurity levels in the EU, while the other focuses on enhancing the resilience of critical companies and authorities. The timeframe for compliance by businesses and authorities will also be pushed back until the legislation is fully processed.
