
Denmark sees 6th week of rising flu cases
Influenza infections continue to rise in Denmark for the sixth consecutive week, according to the State Serum Institute (SSI). Both confirmed cases and hospitalizations are at a high level and still increasing, with 9,856 cases and 2,169 hospitalizations this season so far. Influenza is typically a winter illness, with the seasonal wave lasting from six to ten weeks between December and March. SSI monitors influenza from October through the winter and spring months. Additionally, the RS virus, which mainly affects young children and the elderly, is currently circulating with a high number of confirmed cases but a medium level of hospitalizations. Meanwhile, SSI notes that COVID-19 confirmed cases are at a medium level, while hospitalizations remain low. The overall spread of coronavirus is at a medium level, with low hospitalization numbers reported.
