Police extend Copenhagen’s search zones
Copenhagen Police have extended two stop-and-search zones until October 18 due to an ongoing gang conflict. These zones were initially established on August 9 and cover parts of Nørrebro, Frederiksberg, Nordvest, and an area on Amager. Since their establishment, over 30 knives, several pepper sprays, and three firearms have been found; a pistol was discovered on Nørrebro just this Tuesday. About 1100 individuals have been searched, with 39 charged for weapon possession. Chief Police Inspector Søren Thomassen says that the zones help prevent incidents and improve citizens’ safety. Police have based the zone locations on where gang members are likely located and where new violent incidents could occur. The police note that while one gang operates around Indre Nørrebro and Holmbladsgade on Amager, another is controlled from abroad but may be linked to the Nordvestkvarteret and parts of Frederiksberg.
