Drop in demand causes unemployment to rise

In September, the number of full-time unemployed in Denmark increased by 1,000 to 88,300, a 2.9% unemployment rate, which remains unchanged despite being the most significant rise in some time. According to Kristian Skriver from Dansk Erhverv, this increase is the most substantial one-month rise since January 2023 and is attributed to lesser demand for labor by employers. Job creation is slowing down, with expectations of further declines in job growth. Unemployment has slowly risen in recent years but remains lower than pre-COVID levels, indicating that the workforce is growing faster than unemployment. Anton Thorell Carøe of Arbejdernes Landsbank says that despite the disappointing news, there’s no immediate cause for alarm as unemployment is still very low and has only increased by 2,000 full-time people in the first nine months of the year.
