Bishop urges reflection after politician’s death

Bishop Henrik Stubkjær, presiding over Søren Pape Poulsen’s funeral, expressed his hope for introspection among politicians and the press in light of Poulsen’s death. In his eulogy, Stubkjær emphasized Pape’s dedication to democracy and Danish values, describing him as a strong fighter who never gave up. The bishop highlighted that Pape, despite his high-level political role, always remained grounded and approachable. Stubkjær’s speech also included personal words to Pape’s parents, emphasizing Pape’s family bonds and pride in his adoption. Following Pape’s sudden death on March 2, discussions emerged regarding the intense pressure on elected officials and the role of the media. The bishop recounted Pape’s last day, where he visited his parents in the morning and later collapsed during a party executive meeting, passing away amidst his life’s work.
