Telcos need approval to block scam calls
Danish telecom companies claim to have a solution to stop the numerous scam calls and fake text messages tricking citizens into emptying their bank accounts, but they lack authorization from Danish authorities, states Teleindustrien director Jakob Willer. The proposed solution involves using artificial intelligence to filter out fraudulent texts and identify international calls disguised as local ones. Despite negotiations with the Digitalization Ministry since June of the previous year, there is still no resolution in place. Although these countermeasures seem attainable, they present privacy dilemmas. Analyzing text contents could violate secrecy laws, and monitoring locations through traffic data to confirm the origin of calls also raises privacy concerns.
