Defense minister reviews Defense Intelligence Service’s finances

Defense Minister Troels Lund Poulsen from the the party Venstre has emphasized the importance of economic management after it was revealed that the Danish Defense Intelligence Service (FE) needs to cut more than 100 million kroner from its 1.4 billion kroner budget. Poulsen refrained from detailing but stated he needs to understand more about FE’s financial situation. Given the critical security context marked by the war in Ukraine and recent stories of Russian hybrid attacks against NATO countries, Poulsen has requested a detailed briefing on FE’s finances to ensure they can operate effectively. Following the budget cuts, Ekstra Bladet reports that FE has implemented a hiring freeze and will cut operational costs, including catering expenses.
