Mette F. Emphasizes Boost in European Defense
Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen views the construction of a new ammunition factory in Germany as a significant move toward increasing Europe’s military production capacity. During her visit on Monday, she stressed the importance of long-term investments to boost Europe’s total military output. Since Germany is one of Denmark’s main allies, Frederiksen accepted an invite, signaling Denmark’s willingness to collaborate with German company Rheinmetall. The factory, to be located near the German town of Unterlüss, is not only key to Denmark’s security but also assists Ukraine amid ongoing threats from Russia. In January, Frederiksen, along with several European leaders, urged the EU to assume greater responsibility for securing Ukraine’s arms resources. Denmark has also pledged to expand its ammunition production in the coming years, including acquiring an abandoned factory near Frederikshavn.
