Denmark to assign officer to US Pacific Fleet
Denmark’s Defense is sending a staff officer to the US Pacific Fleet headquarters in Honolulu, Hawaii, according to a job posting by Denmark’s military reported by DR. The role aims to acquire knowledge in case Denmark opts for military involvement in the region. The move is partly in response to China’s increasing assertiveness in the Pacific, including constructing artificial islands and claiming them as Chinese territory. This has been highlighted as a challenge for NATO, including China’s actions in its vicinity. Danish Defense Chief of Planning, Kristian Haumann and Defense Minister Troels Lund Poulsen see this as Denmark’s need to engage with the region and monitor regional developments. Political parties Green Left and Liberal Alliance show support for the decision, and future Danish military contributions are not ruled out.
