400 Million DKK boost for home guard equipment

Denmark’s Home Guard volunteers are set to receive new equipment as the Ministry of Defence injects an extra 400 million DKK to ensure better gear. This funding, which stems from the remaining budget of the defence agreement, will cover protective gear, sleeping bags, hearing protection, and gun sights. Defence Minister Troels Lund Poulsen emphasizes optimal conditions for the Home Guard to carry out their domestic and international safety tasks. Major General Gunner Arpe Nielsen, head of the Home Guard, welcomes the upgrade, highlighting its significance for the volunteers to strengthen their support for the Defence and other authorities. Currently, there are over 14,000 active volunteers in the Home Guard, which was established post-World War II and provides both military and civil assistance, such as traffic control and emergency response during natural disasters and the COVID-19 pandemic.
