Flu infections decline for seventh week

The number of confirmed influenza cases has decreased for the seventh consecutive week, now rated at a medium level, signaling the respiratory disease season’s wane. The same downward trend is seen in RS virus and COVID-19 cases, currently at a low level. Last week saw a slight increase in COVID-19 hospitalizations, but recent updates show a decrease in hospitalizations for COVID-19, influenza, and RS virus. The respiratory syncytial virus (RS virus), which commonly affects children causing breathing difficulties, used to have high and medium prevalence levels. Bolette Søborg from the State Serum Institute (SSI) suggests the season typically ends around week 20, and expects a continued decline in respiratory infections. The latest count is around 300 flu cases, down from under 500 last week, with mycoplasma cases consistently dropping to low levels.
