Data breach affects 260,000 in central Denmark

A configuration error on an IT platform in the Central Denmark Region has potentially exposed sensitive personal information of 260,000 citizens from multiple regions. While there is no indication of data misuse, the region is taking the breach seriously and has apologized. Approximately 100,000 affected citizens have been notified via digital post. The breach involved health details, personal ID numbers, and other sensitive data in research projects, not patient journals. The breach was caused by an improper standard setting on the collaborative platform MidtX, which has since been corrected. The Central Denmark Region uses some data for research projects without obtaining consent to improve treatments and healthcare quality. The Danish Data Protection Agency has closed the case after the responsible authority notified those affected.
