Venstre Proposes EU Climate Protection Funds
The Danish political party Venstre is advocating for the use of EU funds to climate-proof and protect coastlines in Denmark. Ahead of the EU parliamentary elections, they suggest introducing an EU-wide climate protection law. Morten Løkkegaard of Venstre emphasizes the urgency to shield homes from increasing floods, extreme weather, and heavy rainfall. Venstre proposes earmarking a larger portion of the EU LIFE program and structural fund budget for climate protection. LIFE funds are dedicated to environmental and climate efforts, while structural funds also contribute to the green transition. Løkkegaard highlights Denmark’s 5,000-kilometer coastline and the importance of accessing the common EU budget for protection. He also stresses the need for a comprehensive strategy on climate adaptation within the EU, focusing on coastal defense and collaboration across member states against flood risks and chaos during severe rainstorms.
