PM seeks peace and family time after assault

Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen is safe following an assault on Kultorvet in Copenhagen Friday. In a statement, she expressed being upset and shaken but otherwise unharmed, emphasizing a need for quiet time with her family. She expressed gratitude for the support received. Following the incident, her scheduled Sunday activities and Saturday events in Herlev, Rødovre, Roskilde, Holbæk, and Slagelse were cancelled. A man was arrested and charged with striking Frederiksen with a clenched fist, now detained until June 20th, although denying the violence accusation. The police view the act as a spontaneous, solitary event and not as a planned attack. The assailant, a 39-year-old Polish man, appeared intoxicated and was assessed as mentally unstable. Minor whiplash effects were reported by the Prime Minister’s office, causing soreness, headache, and neck pain.
