Impatient farming boss eager for green pact

Søren Søndergaard, chairman of Agriculture & Food, applauds the new green tripartite agreement aimed at reducing Denmark’s CO2 emissions and improving water quality. The deal reflects an earlier pact made with the SVM government in June, which proposed a CO2 tax for farmers, allowing for investment-driven offsets. Søndergaard emphasizes the need to move quickly, as plans to reduce bureaucratic regulation in favor of land restructuring have already been delayed by six months. Local farming groups have land ready for these projects, awaiting implementation and funding. Starting in 2030, a CO2 tax of 300 DKK per ton, increasing to 750 DKK by 2035, will be imposed on the agriculture industry in Denmark, moderated by a 60% deductible, reducing effective rates. The agreement also targets a nitrogen emissions reduction by 13,780 tons annually, addressing pollution issues in Danish waters.
