Danish frigate halts Houthi attack in Red Sea
The U.S. Central Command announced that American naval vessels, along with coalition partners, repelled a significant attack by the Houthi movement in the Red Sea and the Gulf of Aden. Denmark’s Iver Huitfeldt frigate was involved in the operation, shooting down four drones, stated Defense Minister Troels Lund Poulsen. The drones posed an immediate threat to commercial and coalition naval ships, including those from the USA. Commander Sune Lund of Iver Huitfeldt expressed pride in his crew’s proficient handling of the serious threat. In total, U.S. forces and allies, including the French military, intercepted 15 assault drones. The Houthi attacks are a response to Israel’s war against Hamas and have disrupted the vital shipping passage off Yemen, prompting some shipping companies to reroute around Africa.
