Record train passengers across the great belt bridge
DSB has reported the highest number of train passengers crossing the Great Belt Bridge since its opening in 1997, with 4.47 million passengers in the first half of 2024, an increase from 3.96 million in the same period last year. The company expects to exceed eight million passengers by the end of the year. Both business and leisure travelers are increasingly opting for train travel, partly due to corporations focusing on sustainability. Weekdays see approximately one in four travelers as business commuters. The use of DSB’s Orange ticket offers has led to nearly sixty percent of Great Belt crossings. Additionally, DSB has released one million extra Orange tickets in 2024, totaling eight million for sale, to improve train capacity utilization and raise awareness of these discounted tickets. Leisure travel is most popular on weekends and holidays, with common routes connecting Odense, Aarhus, and Copenhagen, while many commuters use season tickets on weekdays.
