Israel confirms death of Danish-Israeli hostage

The Israeli President, Isaac Herzog, confirmed in a post that Danish-Israeli Itzik Elgarat was identified as one of four hostages recently returned by Hamas. Elgarat was captured during a Hamas attack on Israel on October 7, 2023. The three other hostages are Tsachi Idan, Ohad Yahalomi, and Shlomo Mantzur. Denmark’s Parliament observed a minute of silence in Elgarat’s memory, honoring him and his family. Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen expressed condolences to his family, and the Danish Foreign Ministry also confirmed his death, having been informed by Israeli authorities. The Danish Foreign Minister Lars Løkke Rasmussen stated his deep affectation by the news and stressed the importance of implementing the ceasefire between Israel and Hamas and releasing all hostages.
