Uber may aid rural Danish transport

Steffen Damsgaard of Landdistrikternes Fællesråd endorses considering Uber as a part of the solution for public transport issues in rural Denmark. Transport Minister Thomas Danielsen (V) highlighted that private cars should play a larger role in future collective transport, especially where buses have been inefficient. He is also open to the idea of Uber contributing to solving mobility challenges. An expert committee will provide suggestions by 2024 on enhancing nationwide mobility. In 2017, Uber exited Denmark due to incompatible taxi laws, which were recently amended for small islands. The amendment could signal Uber’s comeback. The Liberal Alliance welcomes this prospect, urging swift legislative action for services like Uber. Conversely, SF’s transport spokesperson opposes replacing public transit with more private car use but is open to considering more carpooling, not in a commercialized format like Uber.
