Compensation of 33M DKK in amputation case

After the amputation scandal in Central Denmark Region, the Patient Compensation Association delivered over 33 million Danish kroner in compensation to victims in 110 cases. A total of 442 patients sought compensation, with 274 claims denied and 73 pending. Multiple claims may originate from various medical services, reflecting the broad impact of the incident. The scandal, uncovered in 2022, revealed potential malpractice where timely vascular surgery might have prevented some amputations. Investigations led to over 400 patients across three regions being advised to seek compensation. The average compensation awarded is 337,964 kroner, with a maximum of 5.1 million kroner for an individual case. Central Denmark Region is responsible for the largest part of the payouts.
