Board takes over staff from closed adoption agency
Employees from Danish International Adoption (DIA), formerly Denmark’s only adoption bureau, will start working for the National Social Appeals Board, which is taking over the bureau’s tasks following DIA’s closure announcement. An estimated 11 employees will retain their current employment terms. The staff has been briefed on the transfer details and the Board looks forward to benefiting from their expertise. DIA ceased facilitating adoptions after the Ministry of Social Affairs and Housing suspended adoptions from the last five countries it worked within January due to irregularities and illegal practices. The Board also inherits ongoing adoption cases and responsibilities related to adoptees’ access to their files and follow-ups with children’s countries of origin. Approximately 30 cases are affected. While no new adoption applications are currently being accepted, the Social and Housing Minister Sophie Hæstorp Andersen plans to find a future solution for international adoptions.
