Hash charges drop post Pusher Street closure

Since the closure of Pusher Street in Christiania this spring, there has been a significant decline in hash sales-related charges in the area. Access to Copenhagen Police data showed a decrease from 97 charges in April to just four in August. Vice Police Inspector Simon Hansen explained that the organized trade comprising 35 hash booths no longer exists. Efforts to contain the criminal activity associated with the street began with dismantling Pusher Street on April 6 and continuous police presence to prevent a resurgence. Although some attempts were expected within the wider area, the intensity of police patrols post-closure wasn’t detailed. Pusher Street’s history since the 1980s involves incidents of shootings, violence, and murder. There are concerns that hash trading might shift to other parts of Copenhagen, potentially making it easier for police to manage.
