Wolf pups reported dead

Last year, there were expectations for a significant increase in the wolf pup population in Southwest Jutland with three wolf pairs expected to produce offspring. However, the outcome was different. Two litters, consisting of six and eight wolf pups, were born in the Skjern and Hovborg territories, respectively. A third litter in the Oksbøl territory in southwest Jutland died early, with the cause of death remaining unknown. Professor Peter Sunde from Aarhus University, who monitors wolves in Denmark, confirmed the death of the pups. Despite this, the overall wolf population in Denmark is on the rise, with an estimate of 37 to 50 wolves compared to about 30 at the start of 2023. Danish wolf researchers have projected that the Danish landscape can support between 77 and 210 wolves across 11 to 30 pairs. Moving forward, monthly updates on the wolf population will replace the previous quarterly reports.
