Denmark to toughen gymnasium entry, end 10th grade

The Danish government proposes raising the average grade requirement for general gymnasium admission from 5 to 6. Existing 10th grade will be abolished, remaining an option only at efterskoler (boarding schools), with special education preserved. Students not meeting the gymnasium requirement may still enroll via an entrance test. The stricter criteria would affect 13% of students in the Capital Region and 18% in North Denmark, with 18% of boys and 13% of girls nationwide potentially impacted. The government also plans to introduce a new vocational epx education by 2030, with a lower entry requirement of 2, and establish 87 epx education centers.
