Denmark to accept 200 quota refugees in 2024
For the fifth consecutive year, Denmark will accept 200 quota refugees in 2024, continuing its commitment from previous years. According to the Ministry of Immigration and Integration, these refugees will come from camps in Rwanda, Eritrea, and Afghanistan. Integration Minister Kaare Dybvad Bek affirms Denmark’s support for the UN’s quota system, emphasizing the importance of maintaining this number for successful integration. Quota refugees are selected by the UNHCR, unable to find adequate protection in their asylum country nor return home. A 2017 regulation established by the previous administration dictates the annual determination of the quota by the Immigration Minister. While around 500 quota refugees were received annually since 1989, intake was suspended for parts of 2016-2018 due to a high influx of spontaneous asylum seekers.
