Denmark Dispatches staff officer to Fight Houthis

Denmark’s Parliament has approved the deployment of a staff officer to the Red Sea for three months to join a US-led six-country coalition against the Houthi rebels following attacks on civilian shipping. Though the government acknowledges the single officer will not make a significant military difference, the move is deemed an important sign of support. The officer will contribute to mapping potential new attacks. The assignment will cost approximately half a million Danish kroner. Several parties voted against the move. The Danish Social-Liberal Party argued that the US and UK’s offensive operations were escalating regional tension and increasing risks to shipping, instead favoring a proposal to dispatch a defensive frigate to the Red Sea.
