Covid-19 cases continue to rise

The number of Covid-19 infections and hospital admissions is increasing, as evidenced by a 47% hike in wastewater concentrations, indicating a significant surge according to the latest update from the Statens Serum Institut (SSI) for week 27. According to TV 2 this marks the third consecutive week of rising coronavirus levels detected in wastewaters. Despite the uptick in cases, the strain on the healthcare system remains at a low level. Common symptoms of the virus include fever, dry cough, headache, muscle pain, sore throat, nausea, and fatigue, with higher risk of severe illness associated with advanced age, chronic diseases, severe obesity, and pregnancy. SSI’s wastewater analysis helps track infections even when people have not sought medical testing. Senior researcher at SSSI, Hanne-Dorthe Emborg, notes to TV 2 that the current increase resembles that of August 2023 but is occurring six weeks earlier, not anticipating a wave akin to winter levels. Flu and RS virus reports indicate low numbers of detected cases and hospitalizations.
