Minister open to driving ban changes after fatal crash

Justice Minister Peter Hummelgaard is considering changes regarding individuals who ignore driving bans, after a fatal accident involving a 56-year-old man with epilepsy who defied a driving ban and caused a crash that killed two people. The man, barred from driving by Skejby University Hospital last year, struck another vehicle and a median strip on Mariagervej in Randers before colliding with a Skoda, resulting in the deaths of a 31-year-old man and a 35-year-old woman. Following the crash, the driver was held in custody until August 23. Police Inspector Brian Olsen noted that the driver was going at least 121 km/h in a 50 km/h zone. The Epilepsy Association criticized the ease of circumventing driving bans and suggested notifying the police immediately when a medical driving ban is issued, as current medical driving bans are not legally binding without action by the Traffic Authority or police.
