Judge delays Trump’s sentence until after election

Former President Donald Trump’s sentencing for a case involving hush money to the adult film actress Stormy Daniels has been postponed until after the U.S. presidential election, with a new date set for November 26. The original sentencing was expected on September 18, prior to the presidential election on November 5. Trump has been convicted on 34 counts in the case, with a potential sentence of up to four years, though a lesser penalty could also be considered. Trump, who will be up against Democrat Kamala Harris in the election, had requested the delay and commented that the case should be closed while preparing for what he calls ‘the most important election in our country’s history.’ The postponement may be seen by Trump’s opponents as a concession that he is above the law. Trump consistently denies any sexual relationship with Daniels.
