Danish hydrogen pipeline delayed past 2030

The establishment of a Danish hydrogen pipeline to Germany, aiming to expand green energy production, has been postponed from 2028 to 2031, according to Climate Minister Lars Aagaard. The pipeline will enable the export of hydrogen produced by Power to X processes to the German market, which will aid in transitioning fossil-fuel-based factories and transportation. Initial studies by the state-owned Energinet revealed that the project will take longer due to extensive environmental and safety assessments. The project will be built in three phases, with completion expected in Esbjerg by 2031, from Esbjerg to Holstebro by 2032, and finally at Lille Torup in North Jutland by 2033. Despite the technical delays, the minister expressed optimism as market research indicated demand for green hydrogen and interest from buyers. The government and supporting parties are seeking to streamline processes to mitigate the delay.
