Denmark considers extraditing Paul Watson
Denmark’s Justice Ministry has not ruled out extraditing activist Paul Watson to Japan and awaits a formal extradition request, due within 30 days of Watson’s arrest in Nuuk, Greenland. The arrest follows a 2010 international warrant issued by Japan, stemming from an incident in Antarctica where Watson allegedly attacked Japanese whalers. Although no decision on the extradition has been made, pre-emptive refusal is not justified based on current information. His defence argues extradition violates his human rights, citing Japan’s record. Watson is in custody pending a court hearing.
