Denmark boosts Africa’s green energy
Denmark contributes its largest amount of 785 million kroner to the African Development Fund, aimed at supporting green energy projects such as a hydropower plant on the Tanzania-Malawi border. Minister Dan Jørgensen emphasizes the intertwining of development policy and climate change, highlighting the pursuit of poverty reduction through sustainable development. The funding also targets climate adaptation, effective governance, institutional build-up, and debt management in African countries. Notably, Jørgensen, present at the African Development Bank’s annual meeting in Nairobi, points out that electrification is key for growth, urging that it should not worsen climate issues. The funds have a multiplicative effect, serving as grant aid and guarantees for larger loans at low or no interest to Africa’s poorest nations.
