5.7 billion DKK in old notes pending phase-out

As of the latest update by the Danish National Bank, 18.8 billion DKK in older banknotes and current 1000-kroner notes set for phase-out have been collected. With the deadline on May 31st this year, 5.7 billion DKK still remain in circulation. The collection of these soon-invalid banknotes started in November 2023, and in December alone, the National Bank received 500 million DKK in 1000-kroner notes. Head cashier Niels Kaas emphasized the importance of reminding the public that there are only five months left to use or exchange these notes. The old series of bills from 1944, 1952, 1972, and 1997, in addition to the 1000-kroner note, will no longer be legal tender after May 31st. After this date, the old notes can still be exchanged at Forex exchange offices in Aarhus, Odense, or Copenhagen until May 31st, 2026.
