Tesfaye warns of 10 school closures by 2035

Denmark faces a decline in the number of young people, affecting the availability of youth education in remote areas. By 2035, the number of cities offering upper secondary education is expected to drop from 85 to 75. Education Minister Tesfaye, addressing the issue at the Sorø meeting, warns of ‘education deserts’ in less populated regions, especially in places like Kalundborg and Lemvig. Tesfaye’s youth education reform seeks to merge vocational and academic studies, allowing young people to stay in their local areas for education. He is also considering entry requirements for the general upper secondary program to encourage more students towards vocational paths, helping maintain geographical spread of education opportunities.
