Danish doctors urge alcohol sales ban after 10 PM
The Danish Medical Association is calling for a ban on alcohol sales from 10 PM to 8 AM to combat the country’s drinking culture, explains Chair Camilla Ratchke to Berlingske. This ban could help prevent intoxication-related incidents. They also recommend hiding spirits in stores, imposing minimum prices, and stopping alcohol marketing. Creating alcohol-free communities in schools is another key proposal. Denmark’s youth rank high in Europe for alcohol consumption. The association cites that raising the alcohol purchase age has previously reduced underage buying. Though last year’s government agreement introduced stricter penalties and control measures for alcohol sales to minors, further actions targeting youth alcohol consumption are not anticipated by the current administration, according to Social Democrat spokesperson Matilde Powers.
