Trump on Greenland: Safeguarding free world

During his flight from Las Vegas to Miami aboard Air Force One, U.S. President Donald Trump expressed confidence that the United States will gain control of Greenland. He remarks that Greenland’s nearly 57,000 residents ‘would rather be with us.’ Trump believes it’s about defending the freedom of the world against Chinese and Russian influences. Trump has previously expressed interest in acquiring Greenland during his first term. Danish Defence Minister Troels Lund Poulsen declined to comment on Trump’s statements. Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen referred to the Greenlandic leader Múte B. Egede’s stance that Greenland is not for sale and that its self-determination is for Greenland to decide. In light of Trump’s approaches, Denmark plans to invest in Arctic defense and upgrade infrastructure in Greenland, including handling F-35 fighter jets at Kangerlussuaq airport.
