Ship Fire in Køge Extinguished, Area Clear
The fire on a ship in the Danish town of Køge has been put out, authorities confirmed. On Tuesday, harmful smoke from the burning vessel prompted police to advise residents to stay indoors and shut windows. The following day, the Midt- og Vestsjællands Police announced people could freely move in the area. Difficulties arose on Tuesday as various streets were closed, impacting parents retrieving children from daycare and causing interruptions to train services. By Wednesday morning, train operations resumed, including S-trains. Police reported many people heading to Sjællands Universitetshospital the previous evening but recommended hospital visits only for those with serious or pre-scheduled needs. The cargo ship ‘Rix Munte,’ loaded with plastic and metal waste, was the source of the fire. Images show the vessel leaning towards the dock. ‘Rix Munte’ had arrived at Køge Harbor from Helsingborg, Sweden, the morning before the fire.
