Aarhus Seeks Support Against Youth Opioid Abuse

Anders Winnerskjold, Aarhus council member for social affairs and employment, urges the need for clear guidelines on weaning youth off of opioid abuse. Aarhus has witnessed an increasing problem, with children as young as 14 becoming addicted. A year ago, Aarhus implemented an action plan including educational visits to schools and tailored treatment for under-18 addicts. However, Winnerskjold notes a lack of national guidance for uniform treatment across communities and for general practitioners. He also calls for stronger measures to prevent opioid importation, like tougher penalties for distribution and enhanced customs enforcement. As the issue escalates, immediate action from the government and parliament is necessary, he says. According to Berlingske an official strategy from the government is expected before the upcoming summer holiday, according to the Ministry of the Interior and Health.
