Aaja Chemnitz declines Greenlandic election run

Aaja Chemnitz, a member of the Danish Parliament from the Inuit Ataqatigiit (IA) party, has decided not to stand in Greenland’s parliamentary election for Inatsisartut, scheduled for March 11th. She says, that she believes her role in the Danish Parliament, especially as the Chair of the Greenland Committee during these uncertain times, is important and needs experienced individuals. Since taking office in 2015, Chemnitz has been considering her political options amidst complex negotiations with Denmark and has not yet decided on re-election to the Folketing. Meanwhile, the other Greenlandic member of the Danish Parliament, Aki-Matilda Høegh-Dam, will run for Inatsisartut after leaving the Siumut party to join Naleraq.
