Minister forms committee to modernize TV 2 regions

Culture Minister Jakob Engel-Schmidt has initiated a committee to update regional TV stations, recognizing the need for modernization in an era where local media is declining, and the challenges posed by fake news. Local journalistic offices have decreased from 111 to 68, and printed weekly papers have dropped from 248 to 135 in the last 15 years. TV 2 receives about 600 million kroner yearly, and Engel-Schmidt believes current investments are not fully utilized. Potential changes include adjusting geographic coverage areas to enhance relevance to viewers. Recommendations by the expert committee are expected by the end of 2025, influencing negotiations for the next media agreement in 2026. Lene Heiselberg, affiliated with the University of Southern Denmark, will lead the committee.
