Denmark donates 130M to Ukrainian energy

Denmark is donating 130 million kroner to help make Ukraine’s energy supply more resilient following Russian attacks. Climate, Energy, and Utilities Minister Lars Aagaard stated the contribution is in response to Russia’s military actions which not only cross Ukrainian borders but also target Ukraine’s electricity and heating systems, violating rules of war. The coming winter threatens to leave many Ukrainians without heat and electricity, with energy sector workers also being targeted. The minister emphasized the need to fortify the Ukrainian energy system as robustly as possible. Funds for the donation come from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs’ reconstruction support and will be implemented in collaboration with organizations like the Danish Red Cross and the Danish Refugee Council. About 80 percent of Ukraine’s energy infrastructure excluding nuclear power plants has been destroyed. Since Russia’s invasion two and a half years ago, Denmark has donated nearly 500 million kroner to Ukrainian energy projects.
