Denmark signs deal with controversial president
Denmark finalized a strategic cooperation agreement with Egypt on Saturday, focusing on migration, trade, and the green transition. Danish prime minister Mette Frederiksen and Egyptian president Abdel Fattah al-Sisi signed the agreement at the official residence Marienborg. During his state visit, al-Sisi has been criticized by human rights organizations, commonly labeled a coup instigator and dictator due to his seizure of power in 2013 and subsequent autocratic governance. Despite criticisms, Frederiksen noted conversations with al-Sisi about human rights and the importance of women’s positioning. Denmark rolls out the red carpet, as Frederiksen emphasizes hosting duties and the significant strategic partnership with Egypt, a key player in migration and Denmark’s 46th largest export market.
