Climate council cautions on pledged gains

Denmark’s CO2 emissions may surpass expectations by 2030 due to uncertainties in climate agreements, says the Climate Council in its report, highlighting risks in policies and stressing the unclear path to the 70% reduction goal. The council notes particularly high uncertainties in agriculture, lowland soil emissions, CO2 capture investment timelines, and the effectiveness of a CO2 tax for industries. The Climate Council recommends that the government either exceed target reductions or have a backup plan if agreements fall short. Climate Minister Lars Aagaard acknowledges the challenges and confirms ongoing reassessment of climate deals.
